VICINITY presentation at “IoT solutions World Congress”
VICINITY project was represented during the IOT Solutions World Congress which is the biggest Industrial IoT event worldwide and the leading global event focusing on industrial IOT. IOT Solutions World Congress 2016 (IOTSWC16) is the second edition of this global event dedicated exclusively to joining IoT providers with industry in order to help the latter increase productivity via this disruptive technology.
The IOTSWC16 offers a highly international environment with more than 170 exhibiting companies in an exhibition floor of 14.000 m2, over 8,000 visitors from 50+ countries, and more than 160 top industry/academic speakers will focus on IoT solutions in six dedicated areas: Manufacturing, Healthcare, Energy & Utilities, Transportation & Logistics, Innovation and Technology. Additionally, IOTSWC16 is the only event featuring demonstrations of Industrial IoT. The testbeds are strategically placed in the 200 m2 dedicated Testbed Area of the exhibition floor giving attendees the opportunity to experience never-before-seen IoT in action.
The event is organized by Fira de Barcelona in partnership with the Industrial Internet Consortium, the Industrial IoT organization founded by AT&T, Cisco, General Electric, IBM, and Intel to bring together organizations and technology with the goal of accelerating the growth, adoption, and widespread use of industrial IoT.
Prof. Josep M. Guerrero (AAU) was an invited keynote speaker who made a presentation entitled “The Internet of Energy Integrating IoT into the Smart Grid” in Energy & Utilities session. AAU consortium partner presented VICINITY project, including project’s objectives, architecture and technical approaches, platforms, its pilots and use-cases, and its expected contributions for the IoT standardization over 130 attendees. The presentation especially introduced how VICINITY, smart devices, sensors and IoT can be integrated with microgrids. Further, advantages, improvements and envisioned value-added services which could be provided by the implementation of VICINITY were presented as well.
The presentation received very positive feedback and a lot of interest from the audience. The participating showed great interest on how VICINITY and IOT integrated with microgrids and smart grid. A further discussion session was held followed the presentation, regarding in sensor technologies, main energy challenges, new applications, IOT and smart grids, collaboration opportunities with companies and utilities, etc.
